[ANNOUNCEMENT] Call for Climate Story Pitches: PANAS! Climate Change Stories in Malaysia

PANAS! Climate Change Stories in Malaysia’ project 2021

Science Media Centre Malaysia invites Malaysian journalists, writers, and science communicators to submit story pitches for PANAS! Climate Change Stories in Malaysia, an initiative aimed at surfacing evidence-based, solutions-oriented narratives on how climate change is affecting communities across the country.

We are seeking 200-word pitches for written stories that reflect the lived experiences of individuals and communities impacted by the climate crisis. Stories should highlight locally grounded perspectives and responses, with a focus on accuracy, contextual depth, and potential solutions. Topics may include but are not limited to: extreme weather events, rising temperatures, water and food insecurity, indigenous knowledge, adaptation efforts, and community-driven innovations.

Selected contributors will each receive RM1,500 to develop a written article between 700 and 900 words, in either English or Bahasa Malaysia.

Submission deadline: 2 May 2025

Shortlisted contributors will be required to attend a one-day, in-person workshop on 20 May 2025 at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. The workshop will bring together journalists, scientists, and policy actors to discuss best practices in climate storytelling and science communication in Malaysia.

This initiative is organised by Science Media Centre Malaysia in collaboration with Universiti Malaya, and is supported by the International Science Council Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific, and the International Network for Governmental Science Advice (INGSA)-Asia.

We welcome diverse voices and encourage participation from storytellers across disciplines and regions of Malaysia.
